Job Overview
The Group is a well-established Hong Kong property developer. It is diversifying its business base in order to have a more resilient business portfolio. This involves looking at business opportunities (including non- real estate related opportunities and joint ventures) locally and elsewhere e.g. the Greater Bay Area, Singapore, London and Sydney.
Group Legal is responsible for providing timely good quality pragmatic legal services to the Group in the most efficient and cost effective manner. It is seeking a high calibre legal counsel.
Responsibilities
- Provide sound and pragmatic legal advice to enable business units to make an informed business decision.
- Provide legal support on merger, acquisitions, divestment, financing, restructuring and general commercial matters.
- Understand the type of business (including priorities, focus, objectives and aims) of the Group to identify and assess legal risk.
- Provide general compliance support in relation to corporate transactions and commercial activities.
- Work with stakeholders in all levels within the Group, report progress and status to the Director of Legal and relevant business unit as appropriate.
- Instruct and monitor the services provided by external law firms including service quality and turnaround time.
- Assist in preparing the legal budget and forecasts. Manage the legal budget and external legal spend on a regular basis.
- Assist Group Legal generally across all areas on an as-needed basis and to assist with team projects and initiatives.
- Deliver training and briefings on legal topics to the Group Management and to keep appropriate stakeholders updated on legal issues and its developments that may impact the Group.
Requirements
- Hong Kong or commonwealth qualified lawyer
- Minimum of 7 years PQE preferably as a commercial or commercial law focused in-house lawyer.
- Solid experience in merger and acquisition, divestment and financing transactions.
- Fluent in spoken and written English. Good command of both spoken and written Chinese and Mandarin is an advantage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with people at all levels and work in a multi-cultural work environment
- High attention to detail, and able to see and understand the bigger picture.
- Extremely well organized and good at planning and managing his/her time as well as others.
- Mature and has a high sense of responsibility and accountability for work.
- Good commercial acumen.
- Able to work proactively and independently with minimum supervision.
- Efficient and able to prioritise workload, multi-task and work under time pressure.
- Highly developed influencing and conflict resolution skills.
